SOCIETY FOR INDEPENDENT
LIVING AT SEA

Society For Independent Living At Sea (Silas) will be a 501-C3 non-profit organization whose mission is to provide the public with educational programs and a public forum that will allow participants to live peaceful, environmentally beneficial, viable and healthy lives at sea in open, diverse, democratic and free communities.

About Us

A further international benefit of the Silas mission is that refugees who currently suffer from political, food, and environmental insecurities will have opportunities to live productive, creative and rewarding lives at sea free from discrimination, segregation, and restriction because of differences in nationality, ethnicity, religion, or gender.
The educational offerings will range from the practical to the ideal. Courses in nautical skills from navigation and seamanship to boat handling and maintenance will be offered. In addition, our educational and social programs will explore programs that help the public solve other needs that a viable seafaring life requires such as food and fresh water procurement; and, sanitation and power provision all performed in environmentally beneficial ways. We will also address social, family, ethical and communal concerns in our classes, discussions and lectures; and in our regularly scheduled public forum.
